Buying Christmas Lights
Whether this is the first time you are decorating your home on your own, or you just want to upgrade your old light collection, you will have to know how to choose the right lighting. It might sound boring since it is not something you think about every day, but with a little bit of research, buying and decorating your house for Christmas can be a lot of fun. Plus, you don’t want your home to be the worst decorated one in the whole Duluth! And after you finish decoration, and look at your end product, you will be proud of yourself, and your family will love it too. Too bad you can’t keep those lights around your lot the whole year! Or could you? :)
If you are not exactly sure how to choose, and not confident about climbing ladders and setting up the lights yourself, no biggie- Duluth landscapers can do it for you. But, if you still want to do it on your own, here are few helpful tips:
Making The Plan
First things first, before you go shopping, you need to make sure you know exactly what you want to accomplish, compare your wishes to your budget, and adjust them accordingly. Keep in mind- Christmas lightning is important, but it is not something vital and life-depending. Try to be smart, and stay within your budget. Always try to get quality lightning, if possible. It is not only safer, with better wiring, but will also require less power, keeping your bills low, and will last longer- you can upgrade it in the near future.
Think about your lot, your landscaping ornaments in your yard, your house, all the areas you would like to cover with lightning. After that, think about the position of your power outlets, and it’s strength. You may need to invest in some better quality, GFCI outlets, extension cords and similar equipment. Then see if all that fits your budget. If it doesn’t, you have to skip less essential things. Minimalism is becoming increasingly popular anyway, so instead of lightening up every brush, try ornamenting just the big tree, and the outline of your house, and the edges of the pathway. Even if your budget is unlimited, that does not mean you should get as many lights as possible- you want some purpose and style in your decoration.
Go For LED
LED lights are so much more superior to the old-school incandescent lights that it is not even fair. The only downside of LED is the initial pricing, but the investment returns quickly. LED lights spend only 10% energy, last three times longer, and produce almost no heat, reducing the fire hazard. And yes, incandescent lights are brighter, but since they spend so much, and radiate heat, they are not spread as densely as LED lights. Also, LED lights are available in all popular styles- mini, C6, C7, C9, G-series and even net lightning.
So get LED, if you can afford it. The investment pays itself off, in 2-3 years, and that is only talking about the electricity bill savings. Added security, convenience, and longevity count too!
